Senior Outside Sales Representative
Remote · Western Michigan · Full-Time
About Mullen
Since 1950, Mullen Equipment Corporation has been a trusted distributor and representative for leading process-solution equipment manufacturers serving the chemical, industrial, pharmaceutical, and municipal sectors. We deliver full process systems, replacement parts, and repair services — backed by real technical expertise and a reputation our customers rely on. We’re a close-knit, family-feel team that takes pride in solving hard process problems the right way.
The Role
This is a full-time, fully remote Senior Outside Sales Representative role based in Western Michigan. You’ll be the face of Mullen to process engineers, plant managers, and procurement leaders across chemical processing, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and municipal water/wastewater customers — translating their toughest process challenges into the right equipment and full-system solutions.
You’ll work independently from a home office in Western Michigan, visit customer sites across the territory, travel occasionally for manufacturer training and industry events, and collaborate virtually with Mullen’s inside sales, technical support, and service teams.
What You’ll Do
• Own your Western Michigan territory end-to-end — prospecting, discovery, technical positioning, proposal, negotiation, and close.
• Consult directly with engineers and plant-floor decision-makers to specify the right process equipment and full systems for their applications (pumps, mixers, filtration, heat transfer, fluid handling, etc.).
• Deliver technically substantive sales presentations that earn credibility with both engineering specifiers and commercial buyers.
• Develop and deepen long-term relationships with target accounts and channel partners, becoming a trusted technical resource.
• Partner with inside sales and application engineering on quoting, proposals, sizing, and problem resolution.
• Represent our manufacturer partners accurately — know their product lines cold and keep current as offerings evolve.
• Track pipeline, forecast, and customer intelligence in the CRM; contribute to territory planning and strategic account reviews.
• Travel within territory for customer visits and site walk-downs; occasional overnight travel for training or industry events.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, mechanical, industrial, or a closely related discipline) or an equivalent technical field.
• Strong hands-on technical background — comfortable reading technical RFQ’s, equipment datasheets, and technical specifications, and holding substantive conversations about process design.
• Demonstrated experience (3+ years preferred) selling to, supporting, or working inside at least one of Mullen’s target verticals: chemical processing, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical, Food/Beverage or municipal water/wastewater.
• Proven track record in B2B sales, technical account management, or business development in an industrial or manufacturing context.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication — active listening, crisp proposals, credible presence with both engineers and procurement.
• Self-directed, disciplined, and organized working from a home office; able to manage pipeline and priorities without daily in-person oversight.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly within Western Michigan and occasionally out of state.
Preferred Qualifications
• Direct hands-on or applications experience with rotating equipment, filtration, fluid handling, or related process technology.
• Prior experience as a manufacturer’s representative or distributor sales rep in the process-equipment space.
• Familiarity with CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and disciplined pipeline hygiene.
• Existing relationships with engineering firms, plants, or municipalities in Western Michigan or the broader Midwest.
What Success Looks Like
• First 90 days: onboarded on core manufacturer partners, introduced to top 20 accounts, territory plan drafted with your sales manager.
• First 6 months: active pipeline in place, first wins with new customers, recognized as a technically credible resource by key accounts.
• First 12 months: consistently hitting quota, owning the territory end-to-end, trusted go-to for both customers and manufacturer partners.
Location & Work Mode
• Fully remote — candidates must be based in Western Michigan.
• Regular customer-site travel across the territory; occasional overnight travel for manufacturer training and industry events.
• Company-issued credit card covers fuel and any other expenses for business travel (per Mullen’s travel policy).
Compensation & Benefits
• Competitive base salary plus performance-based commission; specific structure discussed during the interview process.
• Medical insurance — eligible upon hire.
• 401(k) plan with up to 3% company match, eligible after 12 months of employment; employer match 100% vested after 24 months.
• Paid vacation and PTO: 1 week of PTO and 1 week of vacation in years 1–2; after two years, 2 weeks of vacation and 1 week of PTO.
• Paid holidays: New Year’s Eve (office closed), New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (2 days), and Christmas (2 days).
• Company credit card for business travel fuel; reimbursement of reasonable and necessary business expenses per company guidelines.
